Greetings from the Board – June 2025

Greetings from the Board
Your Vistoso Community Association is on track to check off a few more “bucket list” projects this year. We’ve been trying to repair the 27 mile wash for over 3 years and the project is finally under way. (The project is just off of North Big Wash Overlook Place and the trailhead is closed during construction). We also started the irrigation repair work on Innovation Parkway and Desert Fairways. A good start to the summer construction season.
Congrats to The Town! I stopped by the Saturday Farmers Market at Steam pump ranch on June 14th and the new shade structure and misters were GREAT.

Did You Know – June 2025

Interesting facts about Arizona:
Arizona has the world’s largest Kokopelli
One of the most interesting facts about Arizona is that it has the largest Kokopelli in the world. Kokopelli is a Native American god who was revered by multiple tribes in the North American southwest. In Camp Verde, you can find a 32-foot tall statue depicting Kokopelli. The statue used to be in front of a Native American trading post. While the trading post has been closed for years, the sculpture remains.
There are 13 rattlesnake species
Rattlesnakes are a scary species found virtually everywhere in the US. Not all rattlesnakes are the same, though. There are 36 rattlesnake species currently known to scientists. Of those 36, 13 of them can be found somewhere in Arizona. You’ll most often find the Mojave, black-tailed, and Western diamond-back varieties in the Arizona desert.
Scorpions are common
When you’re in Arizona, you’ll have to be careful of running into scorpions. To many people, these creatures are only common occurrences in stories or movies, but they’re a real part of the Arizona fauna. In fact, more than 30 species of scorpions can be found in the state. There are many types of scorpions in the world that differ in size, color, and danger. The most common ones in Arizona are the bark scorpion, the stripetail, and the giant hairy scorpion.
Arizona is number 1 in veggies
Yuma, Arizona is the country’s highest producer of winter vegetables, especially lettuce. Yuma farms cultivate over 90% of the leafy greens consumed in the US and Canada between November and April.
Critter of the Month for June 2025
Red-Tailed Hawk!
A hawk with an attitude!
Red-tailed hawks are a common sight in Arizona, thriving in diverse habitats ranging from deserts and woodlands to urban areas. They are easily identified by their distinctive “kee-eeeee-arr” call and their broad wings, which they use for soaring and hunting. These hawks are opportunistic hunters, preying on rodents, rabbits, snakes, and other small animals.

Do you know an exceptionally cute critter in your community? Share the love and give your furry, feathered, or scaled friend the spotlight they deserve. Submit a photo of a critter whether it’s your personal pet or a wild animal you’ve observed on the trail. Please attach a photo and a brief description of your critter to askvca@ranchovistosohoa.com with the title ‘Critter of the Month’ for a chance to be featured in next month’s newsletter
A Friendly Reminder Regarding Wildlife
We live in the beautiful Sonoran Desert and share our neighborhoods with the wildlife that has been here long before our homes. Coyotes, bobcats, javelinas, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, gila monsters, and birds of prey can pose a danger to humans and their pets. We must be aware of our surroundings and avoid confronting these animals. Maintain your distance and do not behave in a threatening manner. If you encounter a rattlesnake, please call 911 immediately to have it removed. Also, do not feed or supply water to wild animals since they may become more brazen.
