Planting 50 trees for OV 50 Year Anniversary

Celebrate 50 years by planting 50 trees across four Oro Valley parks, April 27

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (April 17, 2024) — The Town of Oro Valley invites all community members to help us celebrate the Town’s 50th Anniversary by joining us for the “50 Trees for 50 Years” community tree planting event on Saturday, April 27, starting at 9 a.m.

This event promises to be a memorable occasion, bringing together neighbors, friends and families to contribute to the beautification of our community.

Roll up your sleeves and be a part of history as we plant 50 trees across four locations in Oro Valley:

  • James D. Kriegh (JDK) Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia
  • Naranja Park, 810 W. Naranja Drive
  • Riverfront Park, 551 W. Lambert Lane
  • and Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road

Staff will be stationed at blue tents at each park, ready to assist and guide participants in the planting process. The trees will vary in size, but most will be small at approximately three-to-six feet in height and one-to-two inches in diameter, with 15-gallon tree bases. Event participants will help place a few shovelfuls of dirt to complete the planting process.

We invite the entire community to join us at any of the designated locations! Key details for attendees:

  • Time: The event starts at 9 a.m., and participants can choose any of the four parks to join in.
  • Identification: Look for the blue tents upon arrival. Staff in gold shirts will be on hand to provide direction and assistance.
  • Process: Holes will already be dug by our dedicated staff, so participants can jump right into planting. After planting, we’ll capture the moment with commemorative photos.

For those unable to attend but still interested in contributing, tree donations are welcomed. To donate a tree, visit the Oro Valley website and follow the instructions on the “Make a Donation to an Oro Valley Park” web page under the blue “Tree Donation/Dedication” tab. Donors can select their preferred tree type and include a plaque if desired. Prices start at $150 for a 15-gallon tree, with an additional $50 for a plaque. Please note, tree donations are not for this event on April 27. For more specific instructions about this process, click here.

The Oro Valley Town Council will also be planting a ceremonial tree together at Town Hall on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m.
