Greetings from the Board – May 2025

Greetings from the Board
A few updates to be aware of:
- The electrical work on a few of the Rancho Vistoso Monuments is underway. They lost power when the streetlights were removed (we kind of expected that).
- Our landlord “asked” us to move the office a few doors down from the current location. We were supposed to move around the first of June, but it’s been pushed back. Please be patient with our professional staff for the next couple of months.
Tales from the Trails (VTNP)
For those of you who think nothing is happening on the Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve Trailhead, here’s an update:
- The Town Council voted to approve the pond restoration instead of a desert garden. It was a long and contentious meeting, but the pond won out.
- The “Do’s and Don’ts” memo that came out a few months ago is under review and a group of Town Council, Senior Town staff, Archaeology Southwest and some Rancho Vistoso residents are in the process of producing a new draft.

Did You Know – May 2025

Interesting facts about Arizona:
Navajo is the third most spoken language
Since Arizona is a state in the USA, obviously, English is the most spoken language here. It’s also not surprising that Spanish is another common language since the area is so close to Mexico. However, did you know that Arizona’s third most spoken language is Navajo? That’s primarily due to the large Navajo population that lives in and around the Navajo reservation.
There are around 4,000 mountain peaks in the state
When you think about mountain states in the US, you probably think about Colorado or Utah. However, neither of those states holds the record for the most mountain peaks. With nearly 4000 mountain peaks, Arizona is one of the most mountainous states in the US. Of these mountains, 26 even reach an altitude of over 10,000 feet.
The lowest point in Arizona is 70 feet
You can’t just mention the state’s highest point in a list of Arizona interesting facts. You also need to see the difference with the state’s lowest point. The lowest point in Arizona is in San Luis, Arizona, where the state borders Sonora. Here, the Colorado River reaches just 70 feet above sea level.
The state animal is the ringtail cat
While Arizona already has a state bird, they also have another state animal. The ringtail cat is the official state mammal. This animal is around the size of a raccoon and is closer to a raccoon than a cat. They’re native to southern Arizona and can be found in Saguaro National Park. However, they like to keep to themselves and don’t come out if they sense people.
Golder Ranch Fire Dept – 311 for Non-Emergency

OV and Golder Ranch Fire 311 Service
Starting Monday, May 5, Golder Ranch Fire District residents will be able to dial 311 directly for these non-emergency services:
- Smoke alarm battery replacements (please provide batteries if you can)
- Snake removals (if the snake poses a danger)
This new process helps reduce 911 call volume and gets you connected faster.
“This is about improving access to the right resources without burdening emergency systems,” said Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) Administrator Bill Fitzgerald. “Now, Golder Ranch Fire District residents can reach us more easily by dialing 311 for these non-emergency services.”
